Schools for the Future
AMA developed the environmental design and MEP strategies, some to RIBA Stage D, for the Schools for the Future design project in Libya. AMA worked with the architect on the design of typical schools for four different climatic locations; desert, mountain, coastal and urban. The designs incorporated passive design solutions, including a modern version of a ‘bagdir’ tower to assist in maintaining comfort conditions. Classrooms incorporated high thermal mass, exposed concrete ceilings and high performance glazing systems; these work in conjunction with night ventilation strategy.
