Sallis Benney Theatre

AMA appointed for M&E services provision for the Univertiy of Brighton Sallis Benney Theatre refurbishment. The Sallis Benney Theatre is on the Grand Parade site and is used for live events, exhibitions and public lectures. AMA designed and project managed the mechanical and electrical services for the refurbishment, the adjoining cafe and a new restaurant and kitchen link building. The design included an innovative ‘behind seating’ ventilation system, with free cooling, which is flexible to suit the space when the seats are retracted.

Boundstone Nursery

AMA employed to provide mechanical and electrical services design for an atrium infill project at the Boundstone Nursery and Family Centre in Lancing. The project created a new covered multi-purpose atrium space at the centre of the nursery. AMA worked with the architects providing performance M&E design, including building energy modelling for overheating and daylight analysis using IES Virtual Environment to assist with the design of rooflights for sufficient ventilation and natural light.

Schools for the Future

AMA developed the environmental design and MEP strategies, some to RIBA Stage D, for the Schools for the Future design project in Libya. AMA worked with the architect on the design of typical schools for four different climatic locations; desert, mountain, coastal and urban. The designs incorporated passive design solutions, including a modern version of a ‘bagdir’ tower to assist in maintaining comfort conditions. Classrooms incorporated high thermal mass, exposed concrete ceilings and high performance glazing systems; these work in conjunction with night ventilation strategy.

Cavendish House

AMA appointed to carry out mechanical and electrical building services design for a new University of Brighton building acquisition in Kemptown. The building is used by the Faculty of Arts and the client were keen to repeat AMA’s successful design of exposed services, as in a previous University of Brighton project at the near by Grand Parade Media Suite. Exposed services strategy allows the use of the exposed concrete structure’s thermal mass as a passive temperature moderator and gives a contemporary, light and airy feel.

Music Practice Rooms

AMA appointed to design mechanical and electrical building services systems for the construction of new Music Practice Rooms at the University of Chichester’s Bishop Otter Campus. The project consisted of the creation of individual music practice rooms which are serviced with due attention to the prevention of noise breakout from one room to another. The works were completed to a strict schedule for the start of a new academic year as required by the client.

Regent’s College

AMA designed the replacement central boiler plat at the prestigious Regent’s College private university in London. The design involves installation of 2000kW of gas fired condensing boiler, with facilities for future integration of a gas fired CHP system.
