AMA appointed by Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to carry out full duties, associated with creation of new laboratories within the existing Pathology Building. All works were carried out adjacent to live areas.
We are working for East Sussex Healthcare Trust on carrying out a study of options for mitigating overheating in ward areas of an existing hospital. Our study focuses on improving ventilation and reducing solar gain. We are using IES to model the impact of different scenarios and finding the most effective options.
AMA are pleased to be working for Universal Quantum, designing mechanical and electrical engineering services for their new research laboratory based in Brighton & Hove. Universal Quantum are developing the first scalable quantum computer.
A flagship fit-out of a new LINAC (linear accelerator) unit at Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford. This LINAC device is most commonly used for external beam radiation treatments for patients with cancer. It delivers high-energy x-rays or electrons to the region of the patient’s tumor. The actual model installed as a part of this project is a revolutionary type and the first of its kind to be installed within the UK.
The works comprised of the complete M&E installations to serve the ‘Bunker’ and ‘Maze’ (in which the LINAC device is installed, and the Control Room and Technical Room where all the associated control equipment is installed to allow the staff to carry out the intricate procedures.
Royal Surrey County Hospital currently has 6 LINAC devices. Each LINAC unit has to be designed with its’ own separate M&E system to enable independent shut downs for routine maintenance etc. without impacting on the other 5 devices.
To follow social distancing guidelines, virtual design team meetings are the preferred option. AMA employees shall not attend meetings within confined spaces, including site huts and meeting rooms. Staff attendance may be permitted to informal outdoor meetings and walk-around meetings, subject to risk assessment and director approval. We are carrying out site visits and surveys, subject to risk assessment and agreeing the method prior to attendance. Our office is now open for staggered working, but AMA employees are primarily working remotely.
Refurbishment of existing operating theatres 6-10 at Guildford Hospital is successfully completed, whilst working adjacent to live developments. AMA provided M&E consultancy services, and designed a temporary extract system to prevent adhesive emissions reaching adjacent live theatre environments.
AMA team are continuing to work remotely through the shutdown. We use Microsoft Teams to carry on with design work and for design and project meetings. So far it’s working well. We have a virtual assistant facility at our office, with co-ordinated incoming calls.
